PRESS RELEASE

From The Desk Of The Council Chairperson

The COVID 19 pandemic has resulted in many changes in the way we do things; but, happily it has not paralysed or stopped our programmes. Instead, we have dug deeper, adjusted to the uncertainty, and emerged with new and different ways of achieving our programme objectives across the Multiple District.

Against this background, I write to advise that we continue to make changes in the ways in which we meet at this time as a Multiple District (MD). New guidance issued by governments across the region, coupled with the continuing uncertainly has resulted in the decision by the Council of Governors in consultation with the Organising Committee to cancel the “face to face” aspects of the Mid-Year Conference (MYC) scheduled for Barbados from November 4-8, 2020.

There is clearly some disappointment, but our hands are tied, and we do have a responsibility to priortise the safety of our members. Notwithstanding the decision to cancel the face to face aspects of the Mid-Year Conference, the show will go on! Although we will not see each other physically, we will be interacting virtually and participating in a number of activities aimed at educating, informing and entertaining Leos and Lions across the Multiple District. We will revamp the programme and develop a new programme aimed at engaging as best as possible our membership. I hope you will embrace the proposed changes when these are unveiled.

Further, the Regional Leadership Institute (RLI), which is normally held ahead of the Mid-Year Conference will be held virtually utilizing a new and exciting format. The Multiple District Global Leadership Team chaired by PDG Lion Gerard Jackson, MJF is working to effect the changes and in the meantime, we urge interested Leos and Lions to apply for participation guided by the procedures established in the various Sub- Districts.

I am looking forward to your participation as we join as a Multiple District working to provide, “Service without boundaries building bridges of collaboration through diversity”.

Yours in service,
Lion Denise Forrest, PMJF
