Lionistic Career

Having joined the Lions Club of Georgetown Durban Park in April 2007, Lion Denise Bentinck has served in several positions on the Board of Directors.

She was immediately propelled into the role of Chairperson Education & Youth Committee in July 2007, Tamer in 2008, Treasurer in 2009, Second Vice-President 2010, First Vice-President 2011 and President 2012/2013.

She also served as Committee Chairperson for several other committees – Health and Service, Strides Walk, Public Relations, Finance and Nominations Committees. She was very instrumental in the launch of the Strides program in Guyana during the fiscal year 2012/2013 through a collaboration with the Ministry of Health and PAHO.

At the district level, Lion Denise served as Treasurer for mid-year convention in November 2011, Zone Chairperson in fiscal year 2014/2015, Region Chairperson for the fiscal year 2015/2016, and Chairperson of the 39th Multiple District Convention. She is serving as First Vice District Governor for District 60A in this fiscal year, 2019-2020.

In her lionistic career, Lion Denise was the recipient of perfect attendance awards for six years, key awards for sponsoring new members, Lion of the Year for FY2014/2015, International President’s award for Zone Chairpersons for Quarter One and Quarter Two FY 2014-2015.

Lion Denise has attended several district cabinet, mid-year, and multiple district conventions, one international convention and one USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum.

Lion Denise is a graduate of the Regional Lions Leadership Institute and she has conducted several training sessions and made presentations on various topics at the club, zone and region levels.

One notably aspect of Lion Denise’s lionistic career is that she has used every opportunity availed to her learn more about lionism.

In her professional career, Lion Denise has worked in academia, banking, financial administration, project development and operations management.

Her academic qualifications include

  • Bachelor of Social Science Degree in Management, University of Guyana, Guyana 1985.
  • Master of Science Degree in Finance, University of Strathclyde, Scotland, UK 1991
  • Associate Level in Financial Reporting, Analysis and Planning, Chartered Institute of Bankers, 2000.

Lion Denise loves to work among the underserved and her work in the development field has resulted in her spending eight years in Southern Africa and many in Guyana working among the grassroots and rural communities on various projects. She also has a passion for transferring knowledge and this is why she always accepts a challenge to facilitate at workshops and has been involved for more than twenty years in the lecturing part-time at the University of Guyana and also private institutions in both Guyana and Botswana. She has also served as a mentor to youths involved in business start-ups for which she received an award for best mentor from the Institute of Private Enterprise Development.

Lion Denise is retired. She is married to Kenneth Bentinck, a Tourism and Strategic Management professional.
